2012 MEETING PROGRAMME

 

25th Jan: Pots and more Pots.

 

Phil deciding on a pot for his kiyohime - once the best front could be found - (the plastic one was a close second ! ). A good start to the year and lots of excitement for this Sundays John Trott workshop

 

22nd Feb: Cotoneaster (1)

1) Cotoneaster styling session working in small groups. The society will provide the material trees to be styled and once finished the tree will be raffled / given to a group member.

2) Repotting demonstration of similar cotoneaster material

 

28th Mar:  Pairs......

Bring along two trees that complement each other or are related (holly & Ivy, Stock plant and Grafts etc) or a pair that clash, or two elements of a display, or just two of a kind......

 

25th Apr: Non Pine evergreens

An opportunity to bring along and see members ever green bonsai other than Pine trees - Junipers, Yews, or any other true evergreens you may have.

 

23rd May: Azalea & Rhododendron

An evening of hopefully fantastic flowers  and colour

 

27th Jun:  Thorns

Hawthorn, Blackthorn, Berberis, pyrocantha, rosea, or any other thorny bonsai you may have on the bench

 

25th Jul:  Pine progress night

Continuing with the progress of pine trees started at last years pine meeting, plus more seasonal work on Black pine, White pine and Scotts pine. A practical demo format with Marcus passing on more pine tree tips

 

22nd Aug:  Windswept & Cornish Landscapes

A night of wind battered trunks and lots of slate !

 

26th Sept: Cotoneaster (2)

Follow up to the styling session in Feb the members who took the trees home to bring them back and show the progress. Plus a time to show any other Cotoneaster bonsai we have in our collections

 

24th Oct: Raffle results

Bring the trees that you have won in any club raffles to show the swans that have emerged from the ugly ducklings.....and there is no asking for the trees back if they look great !

 

28th Nov: AGM

Time for a pasty, vote the committee back in and see the results of the 'Chairmans challenge'

 

OTHER 2012 EVENT DATES

Sunday 29th January: John Trott workshop 

All day winter workshop at the meeting hall. Places limited to approx 12- 14 people so please confirm quickly if you want to attend. Cost is in the region of £25.00 for a full day creating or refining your trees with Johns help and advice.  Plus a chance to buy soils, pots, tools, tree material and many other usefull items from Johns stock.

19th Febuary: Swindon Winter Image Show

the first major show of the year with traders, large raffle, demos and talks. Click HERE for the event poster

 

 

19th/20th May: Trelissick show

Our annual weekend exhibition of any members bonsai at the National Trust Trelissick property.

 

20th May: Exmouth Bonsai show

One of the larger shows in the south west - We will put on a small themed display of refined trees to go alongside the other club displays from as far afield as Swindon & Wales. Several traders will be there, the South West new talent contest, and various bonsai demonstrations throughout the day.

 

27th May: Magical Acsents

A unique event in the Uk - the first show dedicated to acsent plants, display items, bronzes - everything bonsai related except the bonsai. Failand hall, Bristol

 

August Bank Holiday:  Pine Lodge Gardens

A full 3 day event where we display our trees both inside and out at the large pinetum at St Austel. A good chance to meet potential new members and other hortecultural people.
